What’s Happening?

In Proverbs 3:5-6 we read: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

I thought I would use this space this month to update everyone regarding what is happening in my life. As most of you know, I wear a variety of hats. Here are the latest developments:

LifeWise Academy

I had an excellent interview with the LifeWise Team regarding the Director position for the Tippecanoe Valley School District. I’m certain they believe I am very qualified for the position and have already begun discussing a training event next month (I think that LifeWise Academy has been overwhelmed by its success and is running behind). Once approved as the Director, I can begin forming my team. My long-range plans are to convert this into a paid position and work myself out of a job.

We were disappointed that Mentone United Methodist Church declined to participate with LifeWise for now. I emphasize “for now” because we will continue to encourage all area churches to join us, and I expect some will over time. We will also explore other facility options.

I contacted the Superintendent, Blaine Conley, to inform him of these developments and to let him know that we intend to begin classes with Burket Education Center in the fall. Also, I created a Tippecanoe Valley LifeWise Facebook page. I think it is more professional if we work from a designated page.

Global Methodist Church

As you know, I am now ordained with the Global Methodist Church (GMC). I made the change for theological reasons, but if I had continued pastoring Burket Bible Church following disaffiliation, the United Methodist Church would have canceled my pension (Yikes!). Unbeknownst to me, due to a glitch, even if I had stayed with the UMC, I would have lost 1/3rd of my pension. As a member of the GMC, my pension has been restored, and I have been moved from retired to active status (The GMC does not believe in retirement). I have also joined the Great Lakes Conference (GLC) of the GMC Board of Ministry.

Rock Solid Teen Center

Rock Solid Teen Center (RSTC) recently became an Extension Ministry of the GMC. Membership in the GMC offers numerous advantages. First, it provides an avenue to promote Rock Solid and other ministries within the Conference, such as LifeWise Academy. They have put me in touch with Jon Batch, who heads up Student Ministries in the GLC. Second, as a member of the Great Lakes Conference, Rock Solid has access to Ministry Safe free of charge, an online sexual abuse training for volunteers and Staff, a $400 value.

Many of you are aware that we were dealing with an incident involving a young man declaring himself a girl who started freely going in and out of the girls’ restroom. The situation set off numerous Biblical, ethical, and safety alarm bells in my head, so I contacted the Brotherhood Mutual legal division regarding what steps we could take. The matter was complicated by the fact that the town-owned the building. They recommended that we develop a statement on sexuality and make it public in various ways. I also met with a member of the Town Board. After consulting with their lawyer, they agreed we could solve the problem by making our restrooms single occupancy. We already had locks on the door, so the policy was easy to implement. Nevertheless, we received some negative feedback on our Google listing and Facebook page. The good news is that attendance went up. I believe a silent majority of people are grateful that we respect their children’s privacy.

Chokmah Institute

I continue to promote the FaithPrep curriculum and utilizing church classrooms as a meeting place for an accredited and affordable option for pursuing a Christian education. It’s an excellent approach for making disciples of Jesus Christ, but I’m still searching for the key to success. It’s out there somewhere. I’ll find it.

Modesty Restroom Locator

Years ago, I paid a patent marketing company (World Patent Marketing) to research an app to help people locate safe restrooms and determine if I could pursue any potential patents. I anticipated that there would be a growing demand for such an app as transgender laws were increasingly requiring states to allow boys who declare themselves girls to use female restrooms, locker rooms, and showers. Recently, I realized that while learning to create websites, I also developed the necessary skills to create phone apps. My app (Modesty Restroom Locator) functions as intended, but it’s painfully slow. While I continue working on this issue, I’ve been seeking sponsorship from The America Family Association and similar organizations.

Those are some of the latest developments happening in my life. In Proverbs 3:5-6 we read:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart

    and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to him,

and he will make your paths straight.

I continue to trust God and believe, like Abraham, He will one day fulfill His promises.

In service to Christ,

Mark Eastway

Pastor, Burket Bible Church
